The Hidden Curriculum:
Helping Mainstream Students to Survive

Recent research indicates that even if the Learning Disabled student is able to master the standard "3R" curriculum, his success in school can be negatively affected if he has not mastered the "hidden curriculum". This "hidden curriculum" consists of a wide variety of social skills and strategies including teacher-pleasing behavior, peer interactions, and group dynamics.

This workshop presents strategies whereby the teacher can identify the unique social mores in the school and teach these concepts to the LD students.

Objectives:

  • The learner will understand the significant differentiation between the standard curriculum of school and the Hidden Curriculum.
  • The learner will master the strategies necessary to identify the Hidden Curriculum in your school.
  • The learner will master specific strategies to make the school more "user-friendly" for children with learning problems.
