Competition: Can kids live without it? 

One of the most widely used classroom teaching techniques is competition (e.g., games, contests, quizzes, etc.). These activities serve to create a classroom environment which can become highly charged, threatening and damaging to self-esteem. This workshop will explore the dynamics of competition and discuss alternatives to this approach.

Mr. Lavoie will explore additional common classroom strategies that can negatively impact upon the special needs child in the classroom.

Objectives:

  • That the learner will be exposed to five common myths related to the connection between competition and motivation.
  • That the learner will understand three viable options to competitive classroom formats
  • That the learner will comprehend the basic concepts and advantages of cooperative education.
